Lead List of Law Firm Contributors*

Once again, the Bar's law firms and individual lawyers generously responded to the Bar Foundation's annual appeal for gifts to support community legal aid organizations.   Two law firms--Zuckert, Scoutt & Rasenberger and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom--made major contributions of $15,000 and $17,000, respectively.  These gifts were given for the specific purpose of supporting the community's programs that provide legal assistance to low-income and disadvantaged persons.

Zuckert, Scoutt & Rasenberger is a Washington, D.C. firm of long-standing with an outstanding record of service to the community.  In addition to its generous gifts each year to the Bar Foundation for ongoing support of community legal assistance programs, the firm has established an endowment fund to provide an annual cash award to the legal aid lawyer of the year.

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has earned a nationwide reputation for its outstanding record of support for public service.  Its many activities to support pro bono representation to low-income persons include the prestigious Skadden fellowship program that awards one-year fellowships to outstanding law school graduates for work in public interest programs.  The fellowships enable the recent graduates to work for one year in legal service and other public interest programs.

Law firm contributions to the foundation were passed on to community legal aid groups almost in toto as the foundation pays all but approximately two percent of the administrative costs of fundraising out of its interest revenues.
