We believe that every lawyer has a duty to his or her community that extends beyond normal office work.  We have always followed a policy of encouraging our lawyers to participate in such activities.  Our pro bono activities include serving as counsel to RAP, Inc., a successful non-methadone drug treatment program in the Washington area, participation in cases on behalf of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and representation of indigent clients in such areas as employment discrimination, immigration and rights of the homeless.  We are a member of the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Activity Recruitment Team (PART); accordingly, we strive to meet the PART standard of one pro bono case or 40 hours per lawyer each year.

The firm also created and endowed the Jerrold Scoutt Prize, named in honor of one of the firm's founding partners.  The Scoutt Prize, along with a stipend, is given annually by the D.C. Bar Foundation to the outstanding legal aid lawyer in the District of Columbia.
